----------------------------------------------------------
My Friends,
My name is Doc "Rhino" Thompson and I may be the most famous person of whom you've never heard.
In 1983, I took my 10 years as a university professor and 5 years as a police officer (yep, a cop with a Ph.D.) -- and founded the Verbal Judo Institute.
Since then, I have published five books, been interviewd scads of times by the national news media-- ABC, CBS, CNN, 48 Hors, Inside Editions and NBC (including Tom Brokaw) -- and trained almost 1 million people worldwide on the principles of Verbal Judo.
But, you've probably never heard of me.
Here's why
For most of my career, I focused my efforts on police, corrections and security professionals. In that arena almost everyone knows me --- because what I teach works.
In fact, Tactical Communications (Verbal Judo) is now embedded in the training curriculum of thousands of organizations --- from the smallest police departments to the largest corporations --- with transformational results.
But, here is what's interesting...
Even though I developed Verbal Judo for duty applications, I hear all of the time about the positive impact it has on my student's private lives.
That's why I decided to put up this website.
I decided that everyone who might encounter verbal attacks or abuse should have access to my training -- not just the police, corrections and security professionals I had been training for over 26 years.
What is Verbal Judo?
Verbal Judo is about redirecting people's behavior with words.
In police, corrections and security we call this "generating voluntary compliance" -- a powerful outcome in that profession because it saves lives. But, as I mentioned above, I've discovered that it also saves relationships and jobs.
See, Verbal Judo is about effectively handling verbal attacks so they don't escalate and cause emotional or physical harm.
That's critically important on the street but it's also valuable in dealing with spouses, children, bosses, employees, students, and customers.
I've also discovered that kids can use Verbal Judo principles to protect themselves from verbal assault, bullying and physical violence.
In other words, I've come to the conclusion that anyone interacting with other human beings should know Verbal Judo.
