Instructor Training

This five-day course equips attendees with the knowledge and skill to teach others the Basic Training program. In addition, implementation strategies for teaching Verbal Judo are discussed.

Course attendees receive training support materials (print and digital media) and all courseware (Powerpoint slides, 60+ page instructor manual, handouts) needed to teach a class.

Applied Instructor Training

This 2-3 day course is for individuals who have been through Verbal Judo Instructor Training and want to learn more about how to successfully implement Tactical Communications training within their organizations.

Verbal Judo Instructors often face politics, infighting and other hurdles in their implementation efforts. Therefore, this course was developed to help Instructors break down these barriers and fully integrate Tactical Communications into their training curriculums and simulations.

This course is not a rehash of Instructor Training and will not recertify participants as Verbal Judo Instructors. Rather it teaches how to incorporate and integrate Tactical Communication into all training curriculums and simulations, such as Ethics, Defensive Tactics, Vehicle Stops, Firearms, Interviews, Interrogations, Report Writing and Testimony.

Having a firm understanding of the principles of Verbal Judo and the ability to perform the basic Tactical Communications tactics are prerequisites for the course.

  • The Role of Stance, Distance, and Positioning into Effective Communication
  • How to incorporate Isolation Exercises into Six Minute Roll Call Training
  • How to use Verbal Direction to Control Physical Resistance
  • The Role of Debriefing in Subject Control and Incident Management
  • Force Science Research on Duty Videotape Use - How to Use / Accuracy / Testimony
  • Force Science Research on Alpha / Beta Commands and Impact of Profanity on Subject Control
  • The Risk and Benefits of Verbalization in Deadly Force Decision Making
  • How to Use Tactical Communication in Report Writing, How to Evaluate of the Use of Force and in Depositions, as well as, Courtroom Testimony
  • Making your officers “Consciously Aware of their Unconscious Competence.” Officers need to be able to explain their thinking and actions. Doing the right thing is not enough. They must be able to explain WHY they did the right thing.
  • Simulation Instructor Development – How to Conduct Safe and Effective Simulation Drills and Scenario Based Instruction
